When You Have Been Injured by a Highway Defect
Our highways are becoming more and more dangerous every year. In many instances, highway defects caused by poor construction and maintenance result in serious injury or wrongful death.
In over 35 years of the practice of law, I have handled numerous lawsuits involving highway defects against state governments and highway construction contractors. From my law office in Spartanburg, South Carolina — Patrick E. Knie Law Offices — I continue to represent the victims of personal injury caused by roadway hazards.
Each of the cases I have handled is unique, involving its own set of applicable laws and facts:
- I brought lawsuits against the Department of Transportation (DOT) and other contractors for paving one traffic lane higher than the other without any warning. The difference caused serious injuries to motorcyclists who tipped at high speeds when trying to change lanes.
- I represented the surviving family of an out-of-town woman killed when an unmarked country road turned directly into a boat ramp for a swiftly-flowing river.
- I have brought lawsuits for federal and state violations of road construction signage requirements.
When You Have Been Hurt By a Roadway Hazard
One of the most important things you can do when you have been hurt by roadway hazard is think quickly. Use your cell phone or camera to take a picture of the scene. Talk to witnesses and call an attorney or lawyer to catch construction companies in the act, before they have a chance to adjust signs and cover up evidence of the wrongdoing.
